Somewhere Real

One way, gridlock
A concrete maze running nonstop
Not the kind of bottle neck I like
Grew up on a dirt road
Now I’m stuck in an urban pothole
I don’t feel free on a packed freeway
I gotta get out of this place

CHORUS I
Ya, somewhere real
Where the road unwinds through country miles
People wave as I pass by
Ya, where I believe
I hang my hat on the simple life
Counting stars that light the night
Out here I can feel
Somewhere real

Downtown, uptown
Money talks at sundown
I don’t fit this scene of neon green
There’s a place, no cover charge
Not about who you are
Home made brew, folks toast you by name
Goodbye to hip champagne

Ya, somewhere real
Where the town’s got nothing big to prove
Just raise a glass to red, white and blue
Ya, where I believe
Sunday morn’ you thank the Lord
Raise your voice to heavens door
Out here I can feel
somewhere real

CHORUS I
Ya, somewhere real

Here’s a place I can be myself
With my better half
Raise little prayers, rockin’ in chairs
I’m hanging up my hat
When I walk through town people say hi
How you doin’ friend
Out here I can feel
This is somewhere real

To Be a Kid Again

I found an old picture of the family farm
We kids were kickin’ buckets ‘round grandpa’s barn
We we’re knee high, tree tire swinging
Not a worry ‘bout making a living
Racing through acres of tall grass meadows
Days felt like forever, the land was home
Been years since that barn stood high
Now the fields are driveways and street lights

Lookin’ back we had it made
Runnin’ wild, every Saturday
We jumped around, sun up to sun down
Never thought it would ever end
Oh, to be a kid again

I remember that summer like it was last
Go-cart cruising till we ran out of gas
We were grounded from the start
Tearing up our neighbors yard
Sneaking out riding to the edge of town
Burnin’ bike rubber, no one else around
We were rollin’ through life so fast
We still had a blast

Lookin’ back we had it made
Runnin’ wild, every Saturday
Blazin’ trails and riding the wind
Never thought it would ever end
Oh, to be a kid again

Like a summer time Sunday morning, a breath of fresh air
Up with the sun; lay down with out a care in the world

Today I see those sparks in our own kid’s eyes
Christmas morning their smiles an acre wide
Laughin’, screamin, and singing
We can feel the joy their bringing
I can see they’ll be just like you and me
Playing 24/7, it’s hard to believe
That was us not so long ago

Lookin’ back we’ve come a long way
Livin’, lovin’, look what we made
I’m seeing it through the eyes of a child
I’d forgotten way back then
Reminds us how to be a kid again, Oh, to be a kid again

Cover Me

You’ve got some red wine
I’ve got you on my mind
Dancing candle light
Staying in tonight
You’re soft and effortless
Finger tips caress my chest
Turn it on, turn me up

CHORUS
Cover me with your beauty all across my skin
Lift me up in this moment let love begin
As time stands still, it’s just you and me (It’s where I want to be)
Cover me in your love, cover me

You move with a slow touch
I can’t get enough
A little closer still
I taste your thrill
Sweet and sultry
Dancing to your heart beat
Every breath pulls me higher

CHORUS

With all I have to hold
That look in your eyes says
Don’t let me let you go
This feeling I can’t hide
I’m so tied up in you,
Oh with what you do

CHORUS

Cover me with your beauty all from within
Lift me up in this moment let our love begin
As this time stands still, It’s where I want to be
Cover me in your love, cover me

Cover me, oh cover me, ya cover me

Something About Your Way

If it weren’t for your good mornings
I’d be a mess all day long
If it weren’t for your directions
My roads would seem all wrong

If it weren’t for your true honesty
Id be lying to myself
If it weren’t for your belief in me
I’d be trying to be someone else

CHORUS
Something about your way
You make me feel alive
Your colors paint my world
When it looks black and white
You see my silver lining
You make me want to shine
It’s every little thing you do and say
Something about, something about your way

If it weren’t for your conversations
I’d be a mumble when I talk
If it weren’t for your momentum
I’d be a stumble where I walk

If it weren’t for the years you gave to me
I’d be wasted growing old
If it weren’t for all our memories
I just want to let you know

CHORUS

I don’t know what it is
Oh you got it, ya you got it
You got me
As far as I can see
You rock my world, my one of a kind
I’m so glad your mine all mine

CHORUS
CHORUS

Na, na, na, …..

Rewind

Good to see you my old friend
Homecoming, remember when
We use to own this school street
Racing cars and fake I.D.’s
We tore it up with cheap light draft
Down by the river, how hard we laughed
Never did make curfew
How’d you find a girl to put up with you?
Oh, this town is our roots

CHORUS
Rewind those yesterdays
Against the wind running crazy
How’d we ever make it
Through our reckless ways
Play back all the late nights
Like Rock Stars amplified high
We never said die
Had the time of our life
Rewind

Remember cops chasing us through fields
They were always riding our heels
Hanging low at Smokey’s pool hall
Heard it was knocked down to build a mall
Friday night light football games
Still can’t believe we lost state
I can still hear the crowd
We were gaining ground as time ran out
Oh, I wish we had one more down

CHORUS

So much has changed
Still the memories remain
Like those old songs on the radio
Takes me back down those roads
Good to see you my old friend
How long has it been?

CHORUS
Ya, Rewind
Rewind those good old days
When this town knew us by name
We never said die, had the time of our life

One Man Band

Tuning up at Shooter’s Pub (ya, alright)
Friday night almost nine
Check, check - one, two, three
Are we ready for a good time?

2 for 1’s are goin’ down
Smell of deep fried stress
Guys are buying the rounds
Ladies looking their best

There’s a line out the door
Bottles raise to good words
Before I strum my first chord
Someone shouts Free Bird (Free Bird !)
I hear

CHORUS
Play my favorite song, I want to sing along
Sing those good old lines that keep me feeling fine
Play that guitar loud, make me scream and shout
I’m your biggest fan, here’s to you Mr. One Man Band

Set two time to raise the roof
Shots cheer through the joint
Lips and limbs are getting loose
Somebody make some noise

Bachelorette party’s buzzin’
Dancing round the bar
My guitar’s a hummin’
Someone stuffs my jar
Says

CHORUS
The one that goes Sha, la,la,la,la …

Last call for alcohol ya’ll
Hope you got your groove on
Thanks for good times, good night
One more song, one more song, one more song !!!

CHORUS

Play my favorite song, I want to sing along
Sing those good old lines that keep me feeling fine
Play that guitar loud, make me scream and shout
Here’s to you Mr. One Man Band
Here’s to you Mr. One Man Band
Sha, la,la,la,la …

You Can Drive

Living fast with only my plans
Paving a path trying to being a man
It hit me why you felt all alone
I haven’t always been there for you
When you needed me I was on the move
You let me steer my way
To fill my need for control, Now I know

CHORUS
Been driving, this road too long
I’m turning my wheels & putting breaks on
Amazing how you stood by me all the while
I realize I held you last
I’m seeing the signs I clearly passed
Don’t give up on me, you opened my eyes
This time I’ll hand you the keys to our lives
And you can drive

My old highways stuck me in a rut
In cruise control wasn’t changin’ much
Till your grace saved a wreck like me
We crossed the bridge through rough terrain
I never found myself to blame
I was lost and running blind
To what was right in front of me. Now I see

CHORUS

I’m slowing down to the moment with you
I’m learning how to let go to find out who I am

Driving, this road too long
Turning my wheels & putting breaks on
Amazing how you stood by me every mile
I realize I held you last
I’m seeing the signs all the years we passed
Don’t give up on me, you opened my eyes
This time I’ll hand you the keys to our lives
This time I’ll sit back and enjoy the ride

And you can drive
You can drive

Extraordinary

Lately baby, I’ve been thinking
About a whole new level
Everywhere relationships are sinking
I don’t want to settle
For a ball and chain emotion
Like an everyday routine
How crazy, we’ve been conditioned
Let me show you what I mean

CHORUS
I’ll be everything you want, anything that you need
I’ll be extraordinary
I’ll see anything through, everything that you dream
I’ll be extraordinary

Lately baby, I’ve been dreaming
How outstanding I could be
Gonna dig deep to believe in
Gonna give you the best of me
I’m all legit, right here I commit
I’ll be that first-class man
How strange, I let myself forget
Let me tell you where I stand

CHORUS

Extraordinary, when the world has got me down
Extraordinary, more then a face in this crowd
Getting on this groove, gonna light up our fuse

When we’re here together
Enjoying simple pleasures

Chorus
I’ll be anything you want, everything that you need
I’ll be extraordinary
I’ll see everything through, anything that you dream
I’ll be extraordinary

A Few too Many

Buddy’s 21st, drinks his thirst to limit
He was spilling one liners, didn’t know when to quit
Pounding head, feeling dead, No I.D. cards
Woke up in a last nights dinner in the yard
Says to himself, I should learn to take it easy
Morning is hell after a few too many

Billie hits the shots, hits on the bartender
Blows his pay check, pullin’ tabs, gets in a fender bender
Cops flashing cherries make him walk a line
Missed the first step, slur I’m feelin’ fine
Cop says man I’m not about to get friendly
Your comin’ downtown you had a few too many

CHORUS
Funny what we do
When we’ve had a few too many
Feel no pain, mug shot shame
Seeing double, finding trouble, little unsteady
It’s what we get having a few too many

Ringing in the New Year at a cabin in the woods
We were celebrating, draining every ounce that we could
Streaking ‘round the fire lettin’ it all hang out
Got the scares to prove it, aboozing ourselves
The pictures say it all don’t remember much if any
Let’s just say we had a few too many

No need for alarm, don’t mean to cause any harm
Just gotta know when to say when, say when, say when, say when
Oh here we go again

Funny what we do
When were with the crew, tipping back
getting jacked, stacking six-packs
Seeing double, finding trouble, little unsteady
It’s what we get having a few too many

Come on, one more round

Funny what we do
When we’ve had a few too many
Seeing double, finding trouble, little unsteady
It’s what we get, it’s what we get
It’s what we get having a few too many

No Hard Feelings

She was out with friends at the corner bar
Laughin’ like she had no scars
He strolled in, her heart broke in two
Memories came crashing in
The good and bad, in the end
She never got to say I do

Empty vows filled her head
Before he could speak, she said

I want you to know there’s no hard feelings
Between you and me, I never saw you leaving
I walked alone, down that aisle
You walked out of my life
We’re history, I’m over the healing
It wasn’t meant to be, hello goodbye
We tried and there’s no hard feelings

He said, Lord knows I’ve got regrets
So many words left unsaid
I didn’t know what I had till you were gone
I drown in a bottle for weeks
Couldn’t walk these streets with my cold feet
When you moved on, you moved on

I’m not trying to reminisce
All I want to say is this

I want you to know there’s no hard feelings
Between you and me, my heart is still beating
I should have walked, down that aisle
With your hand in mine
I’m on my knees, can you forgive me
I want us to be, but you say goodbye
We tried and there’s no hard feelings

She said, God only knows why our stars weren’t aligning
Nothing you say can change my heart, I’m through trying
I told myself if I ever saw your face
I’d find the courage to say

I want you to know there’s no hard feelings
I’ve changed my life
We’re history, this time I’m leaving
It wasn’t meant to be, hello goodbye
We tried and there’s no hard feelings
I’ve got no hard feelings

Jump this Train

There’s a world out there
Our lives have never seen
I’ve got a map, pack our bags
Put in your two weeks
I’ll stick a sign in the yard
Sell the kitchen sink
Trade my Ford, leave before
We have a chance to think

We can chase the setting sun
This is our new anthem

CHORUS
Let’s jump this train, ride on top
Say goodbye, to our old life
Let’s see the world, hit every stop
It’s our time to get a little crazy
Let’s take a shot and jump this train

I’m tired of being just a face – book
On a lame flat screen
This LCD just ain’t me
The worlds our window seat
Don’t need wi-fi, just blue sky
No more living just to die
This life is no test drive

The open road is our abode
It’s a welcome home

CHORUS

I want to feel alive again
It’s just around the bend
We can take it slow, let’s go

Let’s jump this train, ride on top
Say goodbye, to our old life
Let’s see the world, hit every stop
It’s our time to get a little crazy

Let’s jump this train, dance on top
Say goodbye, to our old life
Let’s see the world
Who knows how long we’ve got
It’s our time to get a little crazy
Let’s take a shot and jump this train

Our journey’s just begun, let’s take a shot and jump this train
Dancin’ to the tracks rhythm, let’s take a shot and jump this train
No destination in mind, we’ve got the rest of our lives
Let’s take a shot and jump this train, come on, all aboard
Track Name: Grateful
Words & Music by: Shane Martin ©2010

Grateful

He was 53 that winter
Laid off and feeling bitter
Complaining not much to show for his life
He said, I lost my only son
In a war we never won
I blamed God for every tear that I cried

I said, how’d you make it through
I don’t know what I’d do
He raised his hands up to the sky, looked me in the eye
And said, here’s the truth

CHORUS
I’m grateful for the food that’s on my table
Friends and family that surround me
Every night I’m down on my knees
I’m thankful to see a sun rise and setting
Everyday’s a brand new blessing
Still doing what I’m able, feeling grateful

He called an old friend he’d been missing
Brought home roses for his Mrs.
Volunteered his time when he was broke
He said, I’m not dying to retire
I’ve got purpose feeding my fire
I’m giving back ‘til it’s my time to go

Well I ain’t no millionaire
Sometimes life don’t seem fair
Still every morning in the mirror, I look little deeper
And say a prayer

CHORUS

For every next breath that I take
Living day by day on faith
Working hard to be a better man
So someday I’ll see my son again
Until then, until then

I’m grateful for the food that’s on my table
Friends and family that surround me
Every night I’m down on my knees
I’m thankful to see a sun rise and setting
Everyday’s a brand new blessing
I’m not looking back and regretting
Still doing what I’m able, feeling grateful
I’m living grateful, so grateful
